“There is this great saying by Rita Mae Brown that states ‘language is the road map of a culture. it tells you where its people come from and where they are going.’ My native languages of Swahili, Luba and Nyanja are rooted in me, and have played a major role in who I am as a person today. Growing in Zambia, and living in Democratic Republic of Congo gave me the opportunity to learn about my heritage and culture. Being able to speak multiple languages has given me the ability to be able to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures. I want to travel the world once I am done with school, and hopefully be able to learn about different cultures as well as languages that I am curious about like Portuguese and Arabic.” — Patrick Muteba
