Poetry: Living Green

Leaves of green,

And a stump of gold.

Fresh fruits of labor,

And a knotted heart turned old.

Sprouting when rain first met dirt,

An envious eye sees all.

Thriving in summer sun,

And withering in the fall.

Wildlife enjoy an offering it bears,

Rodents and birds nest as at home.

Sheltering generations of squirrels and sparrow,

Seeing many souls but still feeling alone.

Life is what this spirit has come to be,

Observing and generosity it says is key.

Dwelling and ruminating for all this time,

It is the tree that has seen a millennium.
